When to come?

Snowfalls and snowstorms start in mid-December. Winter season 2023 starts on 1st of January and lasts until the end of April. From mid February, there is a lot of fresh snow -reaching 7-8 meters at higher altitudes. Enjoy one of the best powders in Turkiye, thanks to its geographical location, you will get fresh powder everyday. If you want to do snowmobile backcountry or snowkiting, we suggest you schedule in February or March.

How to get here?

You can either come to Rize-Artvin Airport or Trabzon International Airport. If you buy one of our full board packages, we cover your roundtrip airport transportation. If you choose to come to hotel by yourself, you need to come to Ispir Exit of Ovit Tunnel. We then pick you up from there with our SnowCat and take you to the hotel (8kms).

1WHAT LEVEL OF SKI OR BOARDING ABILITY DO I NEED?

For backcountry you should have some experience off-piste and be able to handle deep powder snow in the backcountry. All efforts are made to group guests with similar abilities. The best way to ensure that you get the best experience is to organize a whole group of friends and arrive together. We reserve the right to restrict guests from skiing or snowboarding if they are not able to safely keep up with the group. No refunds are available for these guests.

2HOW MANY RUNS WILL I SKI/RIDE?

As many as you can. We try to ski as much as the ability of the group will allow.A typical day might have you ski 7 to 12 runs per day. We try to give our guests a full day – about 7 hours.The ride up provides an important few minutes for you to relax and catch your breath.

3WHAT ARE THE RUNS LIKE? HOW STEEP?

We are deep in the Kaçkar Mountains – there’s a lot of variety and both moderate and steep terrain.All of our terrain is above treeline, a true alpine backcountry area.We will begin all groups on moderate terrain to asses ability.Weather and snow conditions rule, as well as the riding ability of the group.If you want to ride super-fast, score the most laps, or shred the really wild stuff, we can help you organize a private tour. But we recommend you organize a group of friends with expert ability.

4WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?

Ovit Mountain is located in the Kaçkar Mountain Range – the snowiest mountains in Turkey!The alpine elevations (2640-3400m) see between 15-30m of snow each year between October and May. The Hotel (2640m) gets about 10m of snow from early December to early April.We open for Backcountry riding January 1, but may take reservations for earlier weeks depending on snow conditions. Keep up with our webpage and social media announcements to stay updated.This is a rough guide only. Mountain weather can change rapidly and vary significantly year to year.Be prepared for all mountain weather conditions, no matter what time of year you book with us.Good and bad conditions can happen at any time during the season. We try to keep skiing/riding as much as the conditions allow and have fun no matter what. We cannot tell you when to book, or guarantee fantastic deep snow on a particular date. No refunds or rain checks are given for any reason.

5CAN I BRING MY OWN AVALANCHE EQUIPMENT?

No. We will provide new generation airbags and avalanche transceivers for your safety.

6DO YOU HAVE SKIS OR SNOWBOARDS AVAILABLE ON LOCATION TO RENT?

Yes. We are renting freeride ski, snowboard & split boards

7IS THERE A WAIVER?

Yes there is.
All guests must acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with backcountry activities
All guests must read and sign a Release of Liability and Waiver of Claims Agreement prior the start of their trip.

8SHOULD I TIP?

Most guests leave a tip. It is customary, but not mandatory.
In general, in the guiding industry it is normal to tip if you feel that you received good service.
Kind words and tips are always gratefully received.       
Industry standard for gratuities is anywhere between 10% – 20% of your Tour total and can be paid in cash or added to your credit card.
